Aren’t We Smarter than This?

Hey! I think you might be new here. You might want to subscribe to my RSS feed so that you don't miss anything awesome. Thanks for visiting...hope to see you soon!

angry-me.jpgWhy is it that almost every woman that the media interviews concerning the elections always says, “I’m voting for Hillary because she’s a woman and I’m a woman and we need a woman president.”

WTF?

I really don’t understand this line of thinking.

Does that mean that if you’re black, you should automatically vote for Obama just because he’s black.

Isn’t that selling yourself a bit short?

What happened to voting for a candidate because you agreed with their foreign policy or their stance on border security and the economy?

That’s fine if you gravitate to Clinton because of her gender; every candidate has an “angle”. BUT, don’t stop at gender. Actually investigate the views and opinions of your chosen candidate!

This is an election year, people!

If you live in one of the big primary states, there are going to be reports crawling around everywhere.

You owe it to yourself to do your homework and give a better response to the question, “Who are you voting for and why?” than :

“Because [insert name here] is black/white/male/female and I’m black/white/male/female and we need a black/white/male/female president.”

How about, “I’m going to vote for the black or female candidate at least partly because I’m ashamed that in our supposedly representative democracy, no woman or non-white man has ever been president or vice president, and I want to be able to look my daughter in the face as she grows up and say, ‘This isn’t a land of equal opportunity, but we’re striving for that really, really hard.’?”

    Kinda wordy, though. :???:

That’s all well and good and I understand wanting equal rights and equality.

And, what better vehicle to demonstrate that than with the President. [the elected figurehead of the USA]

However, you should not vote for someone just because they are female or black. That’s asinine.

If the superior candidate happens to be a woman, then I’ll vote for her. BUT, if the superior candidate is a man, then he’ll get my vote.

Part of me thinks it is laziness. People identify with someone for some reason and go with that. I love Chuck Norris but I can’t vote for Huckabee, even though his ads are much more entertaining than anyone else’s and I love entertainment. Clinton is a woman and I am a woman but I can’t vote for her because she drives me bat sh*t crazy every time she opens her mouth. I live in NC and Edwards is from there but I can’t vote for him because I like his wife a lot more than I like him. People love the easy out and how a person looks or their sex is much easier to identify with than actually thinking about what we believe and then voting for someone who we agree with. Fortunately I am one of the super Tuesday states so there won’t be so many to chose from by then and I can just cram for the primary test the night before I vote.

    Amen -

It makes women look so stupid….. we’ll never be “equal” until we stop labeling ourselves
