Word of the Day: Cruciverbalist

n.

1. A constructor of crosswords.
2. An enthusiast of word games, especially of crosswords.

[From Latin crux, cruc-, cross + Latin verbum, word (translation of English crossword).]

I’m horrible at crossword puzzles. I love words, I love playing with word, I love making up words. However, the ADD tends to kick in and I can’t spell anyway. I can’t say I’ve ever seen a crossword puzzle with spell check. I also have this nasty habit of trying to make everything a compound word.

That tends to mess up the letter count thing.

Why did I pick cruciverbalist?

Because it took me a couple of minutes to pronounce it correctly and I didn’t know what it meant and it’s random. You’re welcome.

    I knew what it meant but I prefer the meaning I gave it, which is someone who crucifies the English language.

    Honestly? When I saw ‘cruciverbalist’ (which I had to read three or four times before I could figure out the pronunciation) i was ready for someone who wanted to speak about Jesus. Not that I WANTED to read about someone who wanted to speak about Jesus, but that’s where I thought this was gonna go. But. Like always (where women are concerned) I was wrong.

    Looks nice here. I think I’m gonna like it.

      LOL I still can’t pronounce the damn word correctly on the first…or fifth try.
