Word of the Day: Jabberwock

That last part is how I’ve felt the last few days. I don’t know what my deal is. Saturday we went swimming and Sunday we went back. We had a wonderful weekend…for the most part.

Cara managed to slip off her Hello Kitty kick board and under the water while Tucker and I were fixing my bathing suit. She couldn’t have been under very long. I can remember her legs kicking and treading water.

I think I remember realizing what was going on right as the water slipped over her face. Her bright blue eyes were looking up at me. Her nose was maybe an inch below the surface of the pool. It was so quiet.

And then I grabbed her up and she sputtered water into my eyes and I don’t think she even cried.

“Mommy. I sank.”

“Baby, you sank like a rock.”

She giggled as if that was the funniest thing I had ever said.

Cara was schooled about the importance of NEVER jumping on her kitty board unless we were holding onto it. She learned her lesson – granted it was one I had hoped she would never learn and one she would never teach me.

And that is why I’ve been feeling rather: meaningless; senseless.

I can’t get her eyes out of my mind. Maybe I’m not supposed to.
