Gripe About Being a Parent

Tucker and I are in the process of cleaning Cara and Ollie’s rooms.

I was in the floor helping Tucker make Cara’s bed and as my foot scooted across the floor, ole righty was jabbed by a sand bur.

If you’ve never had the misfortune of being acquainted with the little bastards, consider yourself lucky.

As I cussed about the thing trying to rip my foot off, Tucker and I both agreed we were glad my foot found the bur instead of one of the kids’ tender bits.

It was then that I had the epiphany: one of my biggest gripes about being a parent is you would rather get hurt than have your kids be hurt. Don’t get me wrong, I feel exactly that way. However, even though I’d throw myself in front of a moving train to save my offspring, I really don’t wanna hurt.

All that having been said, I’ll keep bleeding for these two knuckleheads but that doesn’t mean I have to like it.

  1. Ha. I just wrote the exact same sentiment on my blog: being a parent means stepping on a piece of glass in your home and being happy because your foot found it first!
