I Can’t Read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Alana is going to hate me for this but I can not get into The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo[1] and I have tried. Really, really tried.

I have the copy she lent me and an audio and ebook version someone else lent me and I have tried all three versions and I DON’T LIKE IT.

And that makes me a freak because apparently everyone likes these books. It’s like I’m sitting in a Michelin starred restaurant and asking if they happen to have Spam and while they’re at it, might they have some Tang on tap?

Look. I’m a lazy reader in that I don’t want to have to “work” for my stories.

I want to be able to sit down with a book and dive right in. I’m willing to give the author a chapter or two if the characters interest me but after those first two chapters, that author had better have their shit together.

I’m almost tempted to keep slogging through it so I can pick at it and examine it and try and figure out why I don’t like the book so I can NOT do that with what I write. But now that I think about it, maybe I should write like that since these books have sold like snake oil in a leper colony. Pretty sure I’m not that masochistic.

Alana, I’m sorry. I just can’t do it. I think this is one of those few books where we’re just going to have to agree to disagree.

If you’ve read it, was it this hard for you to get into? Did it get better? Did you read the others?
