Jeopardy!’s Ken Jennings & Brad Rutter Take On IBM’s Watson for 1M Bucks

This is a geek/tech/dork thing. Not exactly sure why this was an alternate image for the news story but it looks much cooler than the pic of Jennings and Rutter back to back with their arms crossed over their chests. Trust. Me.

If you’re not interested in increasing your dork authority, then I suggest you head to my archives and check out the stuff there since I’ve written some cool stuffif I do say so myself.

When I worked for b5media, I was signed up for all kinds of news/pr websites where journalists get story leads, pictures and videos. When your local news station covers some world event and the video was obviously not created by them? That probably came from one of these sites. And one of those sites is where I saw this story.

Grandma and Grandpa kept me a lot when I was growing up and Jeopardy! was a daily treateven then I was a giant dork. You can understand why this caught my eye. Jeopardy! related and it involves a computer too?! I’m all in, y’all.

If you’ve watched Jeopardy! or keep up with pop culture at all then you’ve heard of Ken Jennings—the guy won 74 Jeopardy! games back in ’04.

Now IBM is pitting their super duper computer Watson—gotta love that name—against Jennings and Rutter—dude who’s won the most cash on Jeopardy!—to see who/what is the mental/processing power proverbial king of the hill.[1]

IBM and America’s Favorite Quiz show® Jeopardy! today announced that an IBM computing system named “Watson” will compete on Jeopardy! against the show’s two most successful and celebrated contestants – Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter. The first-ever man vs. machine Jeopardy! competition will air on February 14, 15 and 16, 2011, with two matches being played over three consecutive days.

I love being a dork.

  1. [1]Did that sentence confuse you? It did me and I wrote the thing!

  1. it starts with final jeopardy, and ends with the world.

can’t wait for the marriage of smart bot, and this one.

    the matrix started this way.

    i think?

  2. THAT’s what you were talking about. Disturbing.

Also? If I were a nice wife, I’d go in and fix that link you borked.
