It’s Going to Be One of Those Days

Hey! Haven't seen you here before. Welcome to Taste Like Crazy! You might want to subscribe to my RSS feed so you don't miss anything. Feel free to leave a comment, read through the archives, and enjoy yourself. Hope to see you again soon.

I’m going to have to bust out my Ferber book.

Cara was up at least three times last night; it might have been more, but I quite counting after three.

Once is fine; I have to feed Biscuit around 4am.

But, for the past couple of nights, Cara has been waking numerous times and refusing to go back to sleep without nursing first.

Not cool, Cara. Not cool.

Now of course it seems like every animal that we own is hell bent on getting in my way and Cara has taken to standing at the baby-gate and screaming at me.

She’s Asleep and I’m Sad

I just realized that I have been sitting here looking around the Internet and writing my “opinion articles” for the past hour and I haven’t heard a peep out of Cara.

I was really skeptical about the “Ferber Method”.  When I say skeptical, I mean to say that if you had told me three months ago that I would use it I would have said “No way in hell!”.  Then again, if three months ago you had told me that my daughter would sleep for longer than two hours, I would have laughed in your face.

The Good, the Bad, and the Jury’s Still Out

Hollyn’s friend, Jennifer, kindly mailed me her copy of The No-Cry Sleep Solution book. She enclosed a handwritten note (great penmanship, by the way!) saying, “Good Luck! Chapter 4 is the one to read if you want the quick read”.

I thumbed through the first three chapters. They contained basic safety information about your child’s sleep environment, the basics on your child’s sleep cycle and then a chapter on “sleep logs”. The vast majority of it was stuff that I’ve previously read in other resources, so I have to admit that I wasn’t the most diligent study on Chapters 1-3.

Guilt and Sorrow

I am so tired of writing about Cara and whether or not she sleeps. Granted, that’s about the only thing that I think about these days. So I’m sure that’s why Cara’s sleep patterns are the only thing I can find to write.

Well, last night was the first night that I had any type of guilt surrounding the Ferber Method.

On the two mother’s forums that I’m a member of, Peach and Everything Baby, all I ever read about the CIO (cry it out) approach was how hard it was on the mother. “It’s so hard the first couple of nights but it’s so worth it”.

Light At the End of the Tunnel

There appears to be a proverbial light at the end of the tunnel.

Cara went down last night at 7 pm and ended up not going back to sleep until 8:28 pm. She slept all the way until 2:30 this morning at which point I went in there and boobed her and put her back to bed. She slept until right before 8 am.

Goodnight You Moonlight Ladies

Cara went to sleep last night at 7:15 pm. She promptly woke up at 7:30 pm and we implemented our plan once she woke. She cried and fussed and flipped us the baby finger until 8:32 pm. Tucker and I took turns going in and reassuring her.

Dr. Ferber, Here We Come!

It begins tonight.
I’ve read the vast majority of the book and I have to say that it’s not nearly the scary, inhumane method that I had been led to believe that it was.
It’s behavioral psychology. Actual researched science. So, I decided to give it a chance.

In reading the book, one major thing became evident. We have NO schedule. We really don’t even have a routine. Correction. We have a routine if you call a routine “Cara wakes up at some point between 6 am and 8 am and then eats some boob a few times during the day and might have some people food at some point during the day and then between 6 pm and 8 pm she’ll have a bath and then at some point between 8 pm and 11 pm she’ll go to sleep (maybe).”
