Ragu No Frying Chicken Parmesan Review and $100 Giveaway

This is a sponsored review from BlogHer and Ragú.

There are two vegetables I can get Cara and Ollie to eat: green beans and corn. Other than those two, my chance of getting anything resembling a vegetable into them is slim to none.

People have suggested I “sneak” veggies into sauces and substitute vegetables for meat but my kids are a suspicious bunch and they can smell a stealthy vegetable a mile away.

But there’s one thing they will eat with no reservations and that’s spaghetti sauce – or linguine sauce as Cara calls it.

I’ve always made my own spaghetti sauce but when I’m in a rush, I’ll used the jarred sauce. And then we started seeing the Ragu commercials about the two servings of vegetables in a half cup of sauce and we decide we might as well try it and see if the kids could tell.

I’ve had the old Ragu and it’s good. I’ve bought it on occasion after a long day of running around when I needed something fast that didn’t involve a drive-through.

As I was making the No Frying Chicken Parmesan, I tried some of the new Ragu and it seemed thicker and a bit more tomatoey – if that’s a word – tasting. Then again, after over 70 years of making sauce, I figure Ragu probably knows what they’re doing.

The recipe was QUICK. I could have had the whole thing cooked and on the table in thirty minutes but I was taking these pictures and Cara and Ollie were hollering at me to hurry up.

I pulled together a quick salad for myself, cooked some pasta and green beans and tossed a hunk of homemade oatmeal bread on the plate and called it dinner…and held my breath.

This was the vegetable sauce. Me thinking it was yummy wouldn’t mean a hill of beans if the kids turned their noses up at it.

And they didn’t! They ate it. They asked for seconds!

Since Tucker was at drill when I made the dish, I’ve made it since so he could try it and it’s official: Ragu and this recipe are both hits.

  1. I love this recipe! What a great idea. My family loves chicken parm, but many nights, there’s not enough time to prepare it. This recipe makes it so much easier.
    Thanks for this giveaway.

  2. It is so satisfying when kid eat something you make that is healthy and homemade. Ragu is a fave at our table too.

  3. It’s a post like this that takes me back to my childhood and makes me wistfully nostalgic 😀

  4. One of my fondest childhood memories was my mom making Lasagna on New Years Day using Ragu. Yum!

  5. Your food looks delicious! I think I know what I am making for dinner tonight 🙂

    Thanks for the giveaway

  6. We love pasta in our house! I sometimes add sausage or hamburger and occasionally I chop up a few tiny tomatoes in it and toss in some additional oregano or basil and put some green peppers and mushrooms in it. whitecarrie69@yahoo.com

  7. I love Ragu, but my daughter no longer likes spaghetti! Oh well, I enjoy it occasionally!

  8. I totally know what you mean — tomatoey is a word 🙂 Thanks for sharing what looks like a dish I can make!

  9. I going to fix Chicken Parmesan for the family this week..thanks for the inspiration!

  10. Manicotti would probably be our fav recipe with Ragu sauce but we also make baked spaghetti and ravioli and spaghetti and meatballs and….we like ragu sauce

  11. I love making my own homemade sauce, but don’t always have the time. I love to use Ragu sauce in a pinch!

  12. I’m lucky that my daughter likes quite a few veggies and I can get away with hiding some in her pasta sauce. She loves finger-food veggies too (asparagus, artichokes, carrots).

  13. Way to go, I remember how hard it was to get veggies into my kids when they were little! Your daughter is very cute 😉

  14. My mom used to use Ragu, but I haven’t had it in a while.. I’ll have to try it again!

  15. I come from a family that grew up on homemade pasta sauce. But I just do not have the time to make it. So I must have an alternative and Ragu is a great choice.

  16. That chicken parmesan looks yummy. I will definitely start buying this sauce now that I know about it. I can’t get my girls to eat any veggies so I can use all of the help I can get. Thank you!

  17. The Ragu pasta sauce sounds great to make my own “bagel bites”. I cut a bagel in half and spread a large spoonful of sauce onto the bagel. Then I top it off with some cheese and stick it in the oven for a few minutes till the cheese is melted. You can also add your favorite toppings if desired.

  18. My boys sound just like your kids. They can smell a veggie from miles away and refuse to eat anything they even think might have a veggie. But once in a while I can get them to dip their pizza into spaghetti sauce so will have to give this new Ragu a try.

  19. i like to use green giant frozen boxed vegetables to get a quick vegetable on the table

  20. Cute pics! I love Ragu!

    LOVE pasta!

My fave way to use it is for baked spaghetti! I love it with lots of cheese too!

Thanks for the chance to win!

  21. I hide veggies in lots of things because my kids think they’ll be poisoned by veggies (other than corn & green beans)!

  22. I love the simplicity that using Ragu offers…a delicious meal–quickly made–what can be better than that? Thanks for the giveaway.

  23. I incorporate veggies a couple different ways. Vegetable soup is a great way because my child thinks that its fun to make words and eat them. Another way is using Ragu sauce to make toaster oven pizzas. We just put the sauce on a pita with some mozzarella cheese and heat it til the cheese melts.

  24. oh no now I am craving some pasta with garlic bread, because that looks so good

    thanks for the giveaway

  25. The Chicken Parmesan recipe looks great, I think I’ll try it ! Thanks.

  26. At least once a week I fry up a pound of ground beef, add it to a jar of Ragu and serve it over Angel Hair. It is so quick and easy, yet fulfilling and comforting! Certainly a staple and a go to dinner at my house.

  27. Must. Try. Soon.

I’ve been seeing those commercials too and wondering if my kids would go for it. thanks for giving it a test run – off to the store later to get some for myself!

  28. Chicken Parmesan is wonderful…we usually buy hot Italian sausage and fry it up and put it in the Ragu. I make Rotini noodles and it’s dinner! Everyone here loves Ragu.

  29. I don’t think I’ve ever had Ragu. I’ve always gone with Prego heart healthy sauces but I will have to try this one, more veggies is always a plus!

  30. LOVE Ragu! Thanks for hosting this giveaway – would love to be the lucky winner and get my son some Christmas gifts!

  31. mmm..mmmmm that no fry Chicken Parmesan looks amazing, and you said in 30 minutes?!?! I definitely need to check this out this recipe!!

  32. My mom always made her own spaghetti sauce. The recipe she used (real Italian from the LaGini family who went to Italy!) called for lots of vegetables (carrots, onions, celery) to be put into the blender and made into essentially a smoothie and then pour that into the sauce and simmer all day. The last time I made it, I had mushrooms and spinach in the fridge, so I put that in the blender with everything else. The color of that sauce was so UNappetizing! It’s still in the freezer. We’re using Ragu.

  33. I love Ragu! I usually add a can of petite diced tomatoes and people go nuts for my pasta dishes and ‘my’ sauce. Do I make sure that I hide the Ragu jars at the bottom of the garbage and take all the credit? Yes, yes I do!

  34. I use Ragu all the time as my spagetti sauce. Spagetti is one of my kids favorite meals and fairly easy to make.

  35. We are a spaghetti loving family – I fix it every 7-10 days. YUM
    susitravl(at)gmail(dot)com

  36. I am so uncreative with my pasta sauce and I only use it for spaghetti. Now I’m totally inspired to start thinking out of the box!

  37. Yummm, that looks so good! We love Ragu here, I buy it in bulk at Sam’s Club! WE use it for our favorite meal, manicotti.

    1. That looks really delicious. I love Ragu sauce with cheese. It tastes too good. I would love to eat that every day.

  38. Fortunately, my kids will eat most vegetables. Vegetable lasagne is a family favorite, and the kids don’t even know they’re eating “healthy.”

  39. I’m not a great cook, but the No Frying Chicken Parmesan recipe looks easy and yummy, so I think I’ll give it a try

  40. I love Ragu, and often divide and fry up my ground meat with seasonings before freezing. Add to Ragu, and you have a meal quicker than the take out window, and none of your food items are missing…

  41. My DH and kids would probably love that, but for some reason I’ve never been a fan of chicken parmesan. It doesn’t make sense, since I love all of the ingredients separately!

  42. I haven’t used Ragu in ages but your dish looks de-lish. I will have to check out Ragu the next time I’m at the store. Thanks.

  43. My favorite pasta for busy nights is angel hair pasta with Ragu and a good Parmesan cheese. Thanks for the contest.

  44. I have been eating ragu for god knows how long. My grandmother still cooks with it when she doesn’t make it from scratch

  45. Ragu has some really good sounding recipes at their site – and many of them are quick and simple too.

  46. Bravo! You did great. Ragu is a longtime favorite here. It also makes a great sauce to add a bit to other vegetables or even soups to zip them up.

  47. That looks too delicious. I love Ragu sauce with cheese. It tastes too good, I can eat it everyday.

  48. I’ve been using Ragu products for years and had now idea about the vegetables servings. Learn something new everyday. Thanks for the opportunity to win!

  49. I’m a vegetarian and it is hard getting the men I live with to eat a meal that has no meat in it. I have to force them to try anything and even when they do like it they still feel cheated without meat. It is good to know that with Ragu they can at least get some veggies in them!

  50. I love putting veggies in the sauces or in the meat, chopping them small and usually at our house they go undetected unless someone sees me adding them! I prefer homemade sauce, but Ragu is great and there are so many days when due to time homemade just isn’t an option! wgbc1446[at]yahoo[dot]com

  51. We are big fans of Ragu sauce. It’s delicious and can be used so many ways. We love it with diced chicken & bow-tie pasta.

  52. Have some Ragu in the fridge right now…would love to try this version of Chicken Parm!

  53. Nothing beats Ragu !
It has always been our #1 choice of sauce.

    jweezie43[at]gmail{dot]com

  54. Ragu is definately a staple in my house, but since I’m a very limited cook, I love to find something new that my kids will love. I’m definately trying this out!

  55. We like lasagna. We will make two different batches, since my wife and daughter do not like ricotta. We’re kinda like “Garfield” when it comes to lasagna in our home!

    pauleyd68 (at) yahoo (dot) com

  56. We like Ragu for a quick meal as well but unfortunately my kids prefer white sauces to red.

  57. Thanks for the review! We love pasta and have it at least once a week but have never used Ragu for sauce. Knowing that it has two vegetable servings in a half cup definitely makes me want to try it now! Thanks for the giveaway!

  58. We have used the Ragu sauce for decades in a variety of meals. I am following and liking. Thank you.

  59. We usually have to go to the Olive Garden to get good Chicken Parmesan, after this blog read I thinking I will enjoy MY OWN just as much if not better. Thank you.

  60. My children are picky eaters and this seems like a great meal for them.

  61. Thanks for the awesome giveaway. It does look like a good recipe.

  62. Yum, pasta sauce sure has come a long way over the years!
    Thanks for the giveaway!

  63. Wow! That looks really good!! My family loves Ragu!!! Thanks for the great giveaway!

  64. It’s 10 o’clock in the morning and I could eat that right now.
It’s always good when you can find something nutritious your kids will eat. Ragu knows what they’re doing.

  65. I don’t see how they can get two veggie servings in half a cup of sauce, but they wouldn’t be advertising it if they couldn’t back it up I suppose. I didn’t use to like ragu much, but I’ll give it another chance.
