When I worked for b5media, I was signed up for all kinds of news/pr websites where journalists get story leads, pictures and videos. When your local news station covers some world event and the video was obviously not created by them? That probably came from one of these sites. And one of those sites is where I saw this story.
Grandma and Grandpa kept me a lot when I was growing up and Jeopardy! was a daily treat—even then I was a giant dork. You can understand why this caught my eye. Jeopardy! related and it involves a computer too?! I’m all in, y’all.
If you’ve watched Jeopardy! or keep up with pop culture at all then you’ve heard of Ken Jennings—the guy won 74 Jeopardy! games back in ’04.
Now IBM is pitting their super duper computer Watson—gotta love that name—against Jennings and Rutter—dude who’s won the most cash on Jeopardy!—to see who/what is the mental/processing power proverbial king of the hill.[1]
IBM and America’s Favorite Quiz show® Jeopardy! today announced that an IBM computing system named “Watson” will compete on Jeopardy! against the show’s two most successful and celebrated contestants – Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter. The first-ever man vs. machine Jeopardy! competition will air on February 14, 15 and 16, 2011, with two matches being played over three consecutive days.
