Last Saturday I posted the “Top Five YouTube Gaming Videos for This Week” and I had planned on doing that for this week. And I missed Saturday. Because I was watching Tucker play Mass Effect 3. [affiliate link]
I don’t play Mass Effect. I haven’t EVER played Mass Effect. I watch Tucker play.
The story is so solid that it’s almost like watching a movie…kind of like the Uncharted series but with much less suck. Oh. Yeah. I said it.
When I went to E3, I was able to secure one of the most wanted spots at the conference: the first look at Mass Effect 3.
I knew about the game because I don’t live under a rock but, like I said, didn’t play and don’t play the game. I’m disappointed with myself for not writing about the demo since it affected me more than I wanted to admit. I blame the lack of writing on sensory overload and a hell of a lot of jet lag.
I wish I could show you what we were shown but I can’t find a video of exactly what I saw that day.
If you’ve played the Mass Effect 3 demo then you saw a lot of what I saw last summer…specifically the little boy who Commander Shepard tries to help at the very beginning. When that kid’s EVAC ship gets dusted, I got pretty emotional. I was all the way across the country from my kids and just watched a little boy get blown up.
Bioware is nothing if not a fabulous crafter of emotional responses.
Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 both had emotional tuggers of heart strings and they were solid games in their own rights but 3 has something…else that the other two were missing. Maybe it’s the fact that 3 brings the fight literally to us–Earth?
Last night, Tucker was watching YouTube videos and he showed me this video. I watched it, tried not to do the stupid girl teary eye thing and then told him I had to go outside and “write my feelings”. I was 1/2 joking and he and I giggled–yes, Tucker giggles–and I wrote this.
Watch the video below and tell me you’re not affected. [If you’re not, don’t tell me because I don’t want to admit I know people WITHOUT SOULS.]
